Allied soldiers use bulldozers and other heavy machinery to prepare the island of Kiska for use as a base of operations after an American and Canadian troops landed on August 15, 1943. The Japanese had previously occupied Kiska and Attu Islands, both part of the Aleutian Islands group in Alaska.
